Size Selection by Cluster Deflection in an Electric Field
نویسنده
چکیده
Defection by an electricfield has been tested asameans to deposit size selected clusters. A hollow-cathode, glow-discharge, source has been used for the production of Cu clusters in the size range between 4 and 38 nm, while afield emission scanning microscope has been usedfor HREM investigation of the size and morphology of clusters supported on Alfoil. The deflected negative clusters demonstrate size selection as a function of displacement while the positive do no tfollow the samedisplacementfunction. Size selection is also observed in the neutral clusters, with the heaviest clusters deposited at the center of the undejlected beam spot. Implications concerning the synthesis of cluster-composed, nanostructured materials are discussed. @I998 Acta Metallurgica Inc.

Electric-Field-Induced Triplet to Singlet Transition in Size-2 Trigonal Zigzag Graphene Nanoflake
Using Hartree-Fock Su-Sheriffer-Heeger (HF-SSH) model, we have studied the dependence of the energies of the ground (magnetic triplet state) and the first exited (nonmagnetic singlet state) states of the size-2 trigonal zigzag graphene nanoflake (size-2 NF) on the intensity of an external in plane static electric field at zero temperature. We identify a transition from the magnetic triplet stat...
متن کاملEffect of Cell Size and Shape on Electric Field Threshold and Critical Transmembrane Voltage for Electroporation
Introduction: Electroporation is a technique for increasing the permeability of the cell membrane to otherwise non-permeate molecules due to an external electric field. This permeability enhancement is detectable if the induced transmembrane voltage becomes greater than a critical value which depends on the pulse strength threshold. In this study, the variabil...
متن کاملHow metallic are small sodium clusters?
Cryogenic cluster beam experiments have provided crucial insights into the evolution of the metallic state from the atom to the bulk. Surprisingly, one of the most fundamental metallic properties, the ability of a metal to efficiently screen electric fields, is still poorly understood in small clusters. Theory has predicted that many small Na clusters are unable to screen charge inhomogeneities...
متن کاملAtomic domain magnetic nanoalloys: interplay between molecular structure and temperature dependent magnetic and dielectric properties in manganese doped tin clusters.
We present extensive temperature dependent (16-70 K) magnetic and electric molecular beam deflection measurements on neutral manganese doped tin clusters Mn/SnN (N = 9-18). Cluster geometries are identified by comparison of electric deflection profiles and quantum chemical data obtained from DFT calculations. Most clusters adopt endohedral cage structures and all clusters exhibit non-vanishing ...
متن کاملStudy of leaky dielectric droplet behavior under an electric field: effect of viscosity and electric conductivity ratios
In this research, hydrodynamic behavior of a leaky dielectric droplet under an electric field is simulated. The level set method is used for interface tracking and the ghost fluid method is used for modeling discontinuous quantities at interface. Using Taylor’s leaky dielectric model, electric field and electric force at the interface is calculated. Simulation results show the droplet deformati...
